2 DAYS Left to Save DOUBLE Homeless Animals!

We’ve seen a huge increase in neglected and abandoned animals here at Amazon CARES.
Our shelter and clinic are currently overflowing, and yet we never turn away a creature in need! Our dedicated staff and volunteers work around the clock to ensure that no rescued animal is left untreated. Amazon CARES truly needs your help to survive.
As you can see from the “before and after” photos shown here, the expert treatment provided by Amazon CARES is absolutely life-changing for suffering dogs and cats who have lost all hope. Once they’ve received treatment, we strive to place as many animals as possible with loving “forever families.” This never-ending effort requires an enormous amount of time, money, and resources…and it’s truly impossible without the support of our generous donors.
Please take a moment and remember the creatures who desperately need your help to make it through another day.
Thank you again for your unwavering support, and for sharing this campaign one more time! It means the world to me, to my staff and volunteers, and — most of all — to the animals of Amazon CARES.

National Walk Your Pet Month

January is National Walk Your Pet month- getting outside frequently is great for both you and your pups (and leash savvy cats too)! Obviously you're getting in some fabulous exercise when you go, but also this is a wonderful opportunity to bond with your pet and work on training one-on-one.

In Iquitos, Peru, many homeless and owned dogs and cats wander the streets day and night. This poses a huge risk for these animals to get injured, or acquire disease from wildlife and other stray animals. We unfortunately see this ALL the time- animals come in to our veterinary clinic on a daily basis after being hit by cars and motorcycles, with serious illnesses such as Distemper Virus and tick-borne disease, and sickness from parasite infestations. Amazon CARES as an organization advocates for animal welfare in the Iquitos area. We educate the community on responsible pet ownership, animal rescue, and adoption.

By spreading awareness, more and more people are caring about animals in this community, and adopting animals to share daily walks with! We hope to continue helping for many years to come.

Help animals in remote parts of the world that need us-- Make a donation of any amount for our Matching Challenge!
ALL donations are being matched until January 31!!

Helping EVERY Animal at Our Doorstep

The image below shows a lady abandoning a kitten on our doorstep-- This is an everyday issue we face. People abandon their own pets at our door, litters of puppies and kittens, and sick dogs and cats...we've seen it all. We have seen some in very severe condition, sometimes even left tied up to our front door or in a cardboard box.
We never, ever turn any animal away. We provide veterinary treatments and all the care they need until we find loving homes for as many animals as we can. We are here to support the community in Iquitos, Peru, making it a better place for dogs and cats to live. This cute little kitten face was snatched up into a loving home in no time at all!

Please support Amazon CARES today with a donation of ANY amount – it will help support our programs to make a positive difference. ALL donations are being matched until January 31, please help us reach our goal!! http://bit.ly/HolidayMatchingChallenge

#WordlessWednesday: Laura's #Rescue Story: An AMAZING #Transformation!

This is Laura before rescue- emaciated and in pain.
Remember Laura? She's a former street dog that was found living under a trailer in the streets of Iquitos, Peru. She was starving and suffering with painful sores and an infestation of mites on her skin. Nearly all her fur was gone. Our wonderful supporter, Laura Lee, found street dog "Laura" and was able to get in touch with Amazon CARES to rescue her. Read Laura's rescue story here!

President & Exec. Dir., Manuela, with Laura.
Laura has been with us since October, receiving proper care, treatment, and lots of cuddles in our Iquitos veterinary clinic.
Just take a look at Laura's recent photos below- she is GORGEOUS! Her skin is healed, and her hair is completely grown back. Laura's pain is gone, and she deserves all the love in the world.

Laura with Dr. Edwin.

Pretty soon, Laura is going to ready for adoption, and ready to meet a family to spend the rest of her life with as a happy, healthy, loving pup!
You can imagine the amount of resources that are needed to rescue and rehabilitate animals in rough shape and sad conditions like Laura. Amazon CARES is dedicated to helping every animal that comes through our doors, period.

Laura's amazing transformation.
Don't forget about our Matching Challenge for the month of January! Without your support, Amazon CARES would not be able to function in any capacity. We rely on your donations for our very existence. Our small team is determined and resourceful, but these qualities will only take us so far when homeless, needy animals are in abundance and money is scarce. EVERY DONATION WILL BE MATCHED up until January 31st! Our goal is to raise at least $1690 more in order to have $2500 in January donations matched to $5,000! This would mean a total amount of $10,000 could be raised for our small non-profit organization- this would be HUGE for us!  How amazing would it be to kick off 2017 by reaching this new and exciting goal? Help us to continue growing our organization, helping animals that need us. Consider donating HERE

Thanks to you, we will save DOUBLE the homeless animals, and GUESS WHAT...?

Happy New Year, everyone! This is Manuela Rodrigues — President and Executive Director of Amazon CARES in Peru and USA — with a message of thanks and a full update on our December fundraiser.

***Very exciting news:
We’ve surpassed our initial goal of $2,500! As you know, this amount will be matched, which means you’ve played a huge part in raising $5,000 to rescue, treat, shelter, and find homes for neglected animals. I’m extremely grateful to each of you for helping Amazon CARES reach its initial December goal. THANK YOU!

***Even better news:
I just received word all donations will be matched in January! How amazing would it be to kick off 2017 by reaching this new and exciting goal?

Please consider making another gift (of any size) if you can, and MOST importantly, share this campaign with your friends and family. If we can raise another $2,500 by January 31st, that amount will be doubled, increasing the total amount raised in December and January to $10,000 for homeless animals!

Most importantly, without your support, Amazon CARES would not be able to function in any capacity. We rely on your donations for our very existence. Our small team is determined and resourceful, but these qualities will only take us so far when homeless, needy animals are in abundance and money is scarce.
Every day we open our doors to sick and suffering animals, abandoned litters of kittens and puppies, and countless pregnant dogs and cats. Regardless of our funds, resources, or capacity, we never turn them away.

Amazon CARES has helped thousands of neglected creatures in the Amazon River Basin over the years. Will you help us continue to fight for their right to live happy and healthy lives? I know that, in this regard, your dream is the same as mine.
Once again, please consider making another gift toward our compassionate cause…and be sure to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE our matching campaign far and wide in January!"

#WordlessWednesday: First #Adoption Fair of 2017!

Chicho, a rescue dog that will make a great companion!
As more of the community in Iquitos, Peru learns about Amazon CARES, the more adoptions of rescued dogs and cats walk out our doors and into their forever homes! We've had such success with our recent community outreach events, that we are planning our first Adoption Fair of the new year on January 29th! Woohoo!

Handfuls of fuzzy kitties waiting for homes!

These events allow us to showcase all of the wonderful companion animals that were rescued from the streets and from horrible, sad situations. It's also the perfect opportunity for us to speak to the public about current animal welfare concerns in Iquitos. You know you can expect to see a bunch of adorable adoption pictures on our blog after the event!

Wish you could adopt a jungle dog or cat? YOU CAN! You can "virtually" adopt any one of our super awesome, deserving animals in search of forever homes with a monthly recurring donation to provide food, shelter, veterinary care, and lots of love to your animal. You can even adopt one as a gift or tribute in honor of a loved one.  Sign up here!

Amazon CARES promotes the amazing strength of the human-animal bond!

A Gift that Lives On Brings Joy and a Big Smile to the Recipient!

Ellen didn’t have a safe place when she went into labor. She gave birth to 8 puppies on the street on October 2, 2016. Despite her attempts to protect her brood, two puppies crawled away, just far enough to be hit by a passing motocar. We rescued Ellen and her 6 remaining puppies on October 3rd.

Like any new Mom, Ellen was exhausted. But she was very thirsty and hungry. She recovered quickly under the watchful eyes of our staff, and she never stopped caring for her puppies! After two months, the puppies were strong enough to be adopted. Through careful screening process, we found good homes for all six pups! Many donors sponsor a rescue pet in honor of a loved one. In this case, a donor from the US chose to pay tribute to her mentor, Russ. We named the puppy Russ, and the human Russ wrote a nice note stating that the picture put a big smile on his face!  We hear this often… sometimes a generous, yet humble gesture can bring such joy. Rescuing an animal in honor or in memory of a lost pet is a unique and ongoing gift of love.

Little Russ was adopted on November 5th. Please donate $25+ to "sponsor" a rescue at http://bit.ly/HolidayMatchingChallenge. Mention a name for the animal you want as a tribute gift, and then, we will email you a beautiful Certificate! At times, a person has named a rescue animal in memory of a beloved pet that has passed away. Grieving pet owners are always very touched and grateful to know that their pet lives on across the world... that their pet saved another life.
Great news-- ALL donations are being matched until January 31! Thanks to everyone who joined our fundraising team and/or have donated-- With your support, we reached our initial goal!

In 2004, Amazon CARES started as a charity involved in large-scale spay-neuter campaigns. Since then we have fixed over 50,000 dogs and cats. Despite these efforts, the stray population is never under control. This is why one can see our Facebook pages flooded with pictures of kittens and puppies. Luckily, these animals find homes quickly, even as we try to promote the adoption of our older animals living at our no-kill shelter 30 minutes away from the city.
