Amazon CARES relies on volunteers from all over the world for much of our work, including important day-to-day activities. Without our volunteers our organization would not be able to help as many animals as we do, because important resources would instead be diverted to salaries. We appreciate each and every volunteer who donates his or her time, skills, and resources to our cause.
Michelle, a Toronto native, is a virtual volunteer for Amazon CARES, volunteering from home in Ontario, Canada. She first learned about Amazon CARES after visiting Iquitos, Peru. Upon seeing the condition of the region’s dogs, she researched local animal rescues and came across Amazon CARES. When asked what inspired her to work with Amazon CARES Michelle explained, “The fact that getting help, and food, to such a remote area of Peru is so difficult. And I saw the amazing things you are doing to educate and help conditions there.” Amazon CARES operates out of Iquitos, Peru, one of the most remote cities in the world. Iquitos is the largest city in the world that cannot be accessed by road, only by boat or by plane. Being so isolated can make running an animal charity difficult, but it is possible thanks to our supporters and volunteers.

Michelle has always loved animals and they have been a part of her family since she was a
child. Like many animal lovers will tell you, Michelle has a special connection with animals. She currently has two dogs, a Chihuahua named Peanut and a Boston Terrier named Stella, along with a Cornish Rex cat named Sushi. Michelle volunteered at a veterinary clinic for ten years, and before becoming a graphic designer she worked in fashion design. In fact, she has designed dog jackets and costumes!
When she’s not helping animals or volunteering her time with Amazon CARES, Michelle enjoys surfing the internet, being creative, and DIY projects. Her favorite TV show is “House Hunters International.” She hopes to someday be able to rescue animals and move abroad.
We are very grateful that Michelle has volunteered her skills for our cause. In doing so, she has helped us to further our work and helped dogs and cats in need.
