2012 Exciting Veterinary Trips starting in February!

Amazon CARES first volunteer veterinary trip begins on Saturday, February 18th and end on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Iquitos is the most remote city in the world, and is only accessible by air or water. No roads lead to Iquitos! If you are interested in attending one of our trips, keep this in mind when making travel arrangements, as flight schedules often require an overnight in Lima, Peru. We need participants to be in Iquitos ready to start work on the first morning of the trip date.

The proposed itinerary is below:

During the Jungle Portion of the trip you will have early morning and early evening and evening excursion opportunities.  These excursions are included in the trip fee.

Please plan longer jungle trips or a trip to Macchu Pichu in Cusco Peru so that they do not interfere with the above trip itinerary.   The above itinerary is subject to change.

While working in Iquitos you will be staying in comfortable lodging in a jungle village 30 minutes from Iquitos by boat or by moto-taxi.  For more info on our lodging read here and here.

During the jungle portion of the trip we will be staying at an eco-lodge.

  1. What are the costs attached to these trips?

  2. The February trip is $750. This nominal fee covers transportation costs to our clinic locations, lodging, and meals. This does not include transportation to Iquitos, Peru. To reach Iquitos one must first fly to Lima.



    The price of each trip varies depending on where we travel to in the jungle. The final trip of the year is a three week trip in which we will be traveling and lodging on a cruise type ship. That trip will cost more than $1300, although I can not give a definitive price at this time.

  3. We have received a grant to cover some trip costs for the February trip. The cost is now $450!
